In Africa and throughout the global Diaspora to symbolize and promote African unity, Africa Day is celebrated annually on May 25 to honor the continent’s independence and liberation movements, rich cultural heritage, unity, and progress. This toolkit serves as a strategic resource to assist individuals, organizations, and communities effectively plan, coordinate, and amplify their messages and activities in celebration of Africa Day (May 25th). The toolkit is a guide to promote consistent messaging and coordinated action on the 25th and beyond. Celebrations can be ongoing and should reflect the historical contributions of the past and visionary leadership of the present.
The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) launched its AWLN Diaspora in New York City on March 13, 2024. The High-Level Launch took place on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The event, which took place at the Permanent Observer Mission of the African Union to the UN, was well-attended by women leaders of African descent and from the Diaspora.
Notable speakers included Fatima Kyari Mohammed, AU Permanent Observer to the UN, and Amina Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General. The AWLN Diaspora launch signifies a renewed commitment to strengthening the network's pillars. The launch also highlights the importance of the African Diaspora in driving Africa's Agenda 2063.
